Choreographer, Dancer, Artistic Director

Jill sigman/thinkdance asks questions through the medium of the body. Conceptual performance that grows out of physical experience, the work of choreographer Jill Sigman exists at the intersection of dance, theater, and visual installation. Described as an artist of “prodigious imagination and intelligence” by The New York Times, Sigman transforms simple actions like walking on eggshells, sliding down the stairs, and eating hot pink roses into complex statements about self, society, and human experience.

Her recent works includes Our Lady of Detritus: a portable performance installation for the back of a pickup truck, created with composer Kristin Norderval, which is a mobile installation that uses recycled materials and solar panels. She is the founder and artistic director of the non-profit dance company thinkdance. She currently lives in Manhattan and has her studio in Brooklyn.
