I nominate Dan Porras, founder and CEO of Planetwize. Planetwize.com is a San-Francisco based organization doing something quite extraordinary. Planetwize matches digital music albums with a cause by including nonprofit partners in the bottom line. More recently, Planetwize released the first in a series of albums under the Planetwize label. Power Up the Planet is a compilation whereby a portion of the proceeds go directly to support SolarAid.org in the UK, which works tirelessly to bring micro-solar power to the poorest of the poor. While wealthy nations dominate the climate negotiations, let us not forget that impoverished people have a right to renewable energy, too. That’s why Thievery Corporation, Zap Mama, Ozomatli, Brazilian Girls and more have come together on a new compilation. Planetwize offers musicians the opportunity to give back through their music.
