Anyone who has met Barry Scott knows why he is considered a solar pioneer. Barry’s energy and enthusiasm for solar and other renewable sources is contagious. He is a huge proponent of energy education and has directly and indirectly reached tens of thousands of people.

As the California State Coordinator of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, Barry has the amazing task of educating teachers about solar and all types of energy related topics. From climate change to coal, Barry enlightens all who attended his workshops or events. They, in turn, share this with their students. Not only are students current energy consumers, but they will be tomorrow’s leaders and decision makers.

Among his responsibilities is coordination of educational programs for the Pacific Gas and Electric Solar Schools Program. This program is a multi-million dollar effort directed toward providing resources, teacher training, grants and photovoltaic systems to public schools within the PG&E service territory.

In furthering the goal of creating a more energy-aware citizenry, Barry works with hundreds of schools, principals, teachers, and school boards. He also works in concert with public agencies, such as the California Energy Commission, Department of Education, and with other organizations including the California School Boards Association, the California Science Teachers Association, and the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.

Barry comes from an eight year career in public education, which followed careers in architecture and industrial design. He holds degrees in Architecture and Educational Technology and is a member of the ASES, ACEEE, and other organizations with interests in energy and in education.
