The Global Film: The film will be produced in a documentary format. It will take the viewer on an international journey to discover and better understand our world, its peoples and territories, their vast diversities and commonalities and the challenges we share as a global community.

Living portraits of 100 People that representatively create a world portrait of our earth's population will serve as the building blocks from which to reveal an intimate, compelling continuum of humanity facing and overcoming everyday challenges of life on our planet. Rather than a film made up of 100 life stories, we will present a snapshot of each individual's life situation. Each individual will speak in their native language to emphasize their unique identity. Subtitles will translate their experience to the audience.

Each of the 100 People will greet us from the doorway of their home, a threshold over which we can cross from one world to another or the place at which you welcome a stranger. As in the documentary Winged Migration, we will travel across the earth's territories to discover the planet's natural beauty, areas undergoing rapid urbanization or areas rebuilding after natural or man-made disasters. Images of the world's incredibly diverse terrain will create a rich background to fill out each person's life and world.

The book: All of the photos selected to create the installation will be included in a museum quality-printed, oversize book of photographs. World-culture information and highlights from subject interviews will supplement the book.

The Installation: Employing photographs, audio recordings and projected video, the installation for the 100 People project invites viewers to more personally discover and feel a part of a circle of world neighbors. 100 portraits will stand side-by-side to form a continuous circle that calls the audience to its center. Each of the 100 People will be represented separately on larger-than-life-size weatherproof canvas and will be double-sided printed, as if beckoning the patrons from within or without, to join the circle. As the viewer walks throughout the installation, a visual thread of faces weaves together a fabric of world peoples. You will feel as if you have become a part of the world community. Longitudinal, latitudinal lines and single-outlines of the continents will be drawn on the floor of the installation to orient the viewer to the geographical area of origin for each individual. A pair of headphones assigned to each portrait will channel individual voices speaking to us in their own language. At times, the filmmakers' voice interjects, reminding us that this project is built from an ongoing dialogue. All languages will be translated into Spanish, English, and Mandarin.

Arched video screens, oriented towards the north, south, east and west, will embrace and pull together all of the individual images underneath. The video program will show the rich diversity of local environments and offer greater perspective on the planet we share, as we journey around the world.

The 100 People installation will be presented as a national, then international tour. Presented in public spaces, ranging from malls, to schools, to outdoor public gardens to the Mall in Washington D.C., the installation gestures towards extending the dimensions of our global relationships. In doing so, our wish is for patrons of all ages and all backgrounds to discover a new set of common values, or a new way in which they fit into local and world communities.
